The theme of Death of a Salesman is “The American Dream”, This being shown in my fathers beliefs. My father beliefs the being a liked man is what you need to be in business and that Happy and I are these men and should live this American Dream the way that he lives his. This has lead to some tension in my family. My father believes that I am one of these men and that I be a salesman as he is, but I don’t want to do this I have other passions that I would love to pursue and for some reason he does not believe that I can make a life out of this. I love my father and want to make him happy while still living my American dream and one day him being proud of what I love to do instead of being disappointed in me not being a salesman.

Scene or Passage Analysis
In the beginning of the Death of a Salesman, Willy Loman shows that he is disappointed in me but nobody really understood why this was. This is shown when Linda says, “When you write you’re coming, he’s all smiles, and talks about the future, and-he’s just wonderful. And then the closer you seem to come, the ore shaky he gets, and then by the time you get here, he’s arguing, and he seems angry at you…”(38) This hit me hard because we use to be so close and he use to be so proud of me, I just don’t get why he could think that I am not doing anything with my life when I like what I do. I am so happy when I am helping on the farm and love what I do, and as it seems the only reason my dad is disappointed in me is because I am not doing exactly what he wants or expects me to do. I’m going to try as hard as I can to make him see this and hope he will be proud of me once again.

Letter to a Character, Writer, Director
Dear Arthur Miller,
My name is Biff Loman and i am a character in your play The Death of a Salesman. There are a couple of things that i would like to ask you about my character in the play and even the play itself. I would first like to start off by saying that this play is a work of art and could not have been any better. The first question i would like to ask is why am i the only one that sees i need to go for something better other than being miserable when my father and brother will not see this as well. Don't get me wrong my father and brother are both great men but there life could be so much better if they could accept that. In the book Happy says " Sometimes I sit in my apartment alone-all alone. and i think of the rent I'm paying. And its crazy".(12) This shows that he notices that is life is not what it could be but at the same time he does not want to make it any better. Well thanks for the amazing play and making me.
